Through Social Inclusion

Inclusive Devices and Communities

By: Rezvan Boostani and Alison Mulvale

The main objective of this project was to focus on assistive devices and communities to identify existing barriers and unmet user needs as well as to discover mismatches that exist between the current system and needs, in order to propose interventions in the system to address the identified gaps.

Our project focused on System Thinking and Design Thinking approaches to achieve the aforementioned objectives.Using a grounded theory approach this project involved both primary and secondary research. Key themes emerged through literature as well as interviews and discussions with various stakeholders. Methods were as follows:

  • Literature Review

  • Informal Chats

  • Interviews

  • Iterative Inquiry Mapping

We used mapping tools to identify the redundancies in the applications and assessments in the existing system that one have to go through, despite the very similar eligibility criteria that these programs have.
